(a) Denagard
Mycoplasma prevention programmes have been applied to turkey growers (fattening turkey), applying 0.025% Denagard during the first 3 days of life and again for 3 days at 4 weeks. This can be repeated every 4 weeks until slaughter. Because of the large variation in bodyweight between hens and stags and water intakes it is probably more reliable to use dosage for kg of body weight rather than concentration in water. However, a number of studies have shown that 0.025% (around 50 mg/kg) in the water was effective for treatment and prevention of mycoplasmosis in growing birds as well as breeder layers that broke down with Mycoplasma.

Mycoplasma treatment has been extensively tested and a number of studies have been published. The recommended dose is 0.025 – 0.05% in drinking water during 3 days. The following study indicated an effective cure after use in the drinking water. Denagard was more effective in curing Mycoplasma gallisepticum than a similar dose of Tylan.
Laber and Schütze (1975) reported on the use of Tiamulin in artificial infection studies where 3-week-old poults were inoculated into the left posterior thoracic air sac with a culture of MG. They were then treated orally in the drinking water at a variety of dose rates of Tiamulin and Tylosin for 3 days. The birds were necropsied 8 days later and the air sac lesions evaluated.
The percentage cure rate was compared to an untreated group as a control. Levels of 0.025% Tiamulin gave a 50% cure rate and at 0.05% gave a 75% cure rate. Tylosin at the same levels gave a 25% and 75% cure rate respectively. All of the untreated infected controls were not cured.

(b) Tetramutin (Denagard + CTC)
Turkey trials have been carried out in Denmark, using a preventive program of 70 ppm THF + 200 ppm CTC 3 days per month in the feed. In this trial this dosage was as effective in preventing Mycoplasma infections as 200 ppm THF.

For the treatment of Mycoplasmosis in turkeys, a dose of 150 ppm THF + 450 ppm CTC or OTC is advisable.
